The Directorate for Safety, Environment and Energy is committed to safety, protection and assistance, environmental protection, sustainable energy supply and is responsible for building permit procedures as well as for the Bern Animal Park (Dählhölzli + BearPark). At the zoo, we focus on imparting knowledge about European animals and their habitats.

Apprenticeship as an animal keeper/caretaker

Please note: A prerequisite for completing an apprenticeship as an animal keeper at the Bern Animal Park is a successfully completed vocational apprenticeship, preferably in a skilled trade.

Trial apprenticeships

Note: The trial apprenticeships for 2024 are already fully booked.

A trial apprenticeship at Tierpark Bern is possible from the age of 15 and lasts 5 days, from Monday to Friday.

We will accept your application at tierpark-bern@bern.ch.

The trial apprenticeship is free of charge for residents of the city of Bern, otherwise it costs CHF 200.00
