Social insects
Social insects are insect species that, as state-forming insects, each have one or, more rarely, several egg-laying females (queens), while the other colony members have reduced or non-functional gonads. These insects also cooperate closely and are among the most successful creatures.
In the zoo we keep the leafcutter ants and the harvest termites as eusocial insect states.
