Native Amphibians & Reptiles<\/h1>\n

Native biodiversity is declining drastically, Switzerland is losing a great many species at the moment. As part of the City of Bern’s theme year \u00abNature Needs a City<\/a>\u00bb in 2021, the zoo also got involved: in the terrariums with native amphibians and reptiles, visitors experience how fascinating and at the same time endangered these species are. They also learn what they can do in their own gardens to promote these and other species.
\nThe outdoor terrariums are opposite the gopher enclosure, while the European pond turtle is in the pond in front of the B\u00e4renHaus. The common fire salamander is also a native amphibian, but lives in the puffin hall.<\/p>\n

In Switzerland, the adder is mainly found in the eastern Alpine region.<\/p>\n
